How is Venetian Carpet different from Ingrain Carpet? Both types of carpet use a very durable and heavy wool yarn and are both flat-weave carpets. The primary difference between the two is the looms on which they are woven. Ingrain carpet is woven on card-driven Jacquard looms that allow for a much more detailed and intricate pattern. Venetian carpets utilize simpler striped patterns and do not require punch cards for manufacture. Venetian carpet was a popular choice for less formal rooms in the home.
