Overshot weave.

Weaver: J. Lovell of Fayetteville, AL. She wove this coverlet in the late 1880s. Her version of this popular motif is on the larger side. Originally woven with 2 shades of brown wool (as it appears she ran out of first batch and dyed a second batch) on a natural off white cotton background. Seamed together in the middle not matching motifs – a typical feature to coverlets of the time when hand woven.
