Liza Duel 1790

The original overshot coverlet was woven with indigo blue and natural linen, which is quite rare. The most widely used fibers were wool weft on a cotton warp. On the plain weave heading of this coverlet was the embroidered name of Elizabeth Duel x 1790. The date makes this an early overshot coverlet and also quite rare to find these days, especially in the beautiful condition this one remains in. Weaver is unknown, but the origin is believed to be New York state.
